Kaltura allows faculty, students, and staff at Rutgers to create or upload videos to a streaming server, which makes sharing them easy for everyone. You could think of our Kaltura server as Rutgers own YouTube-like service.
To create new videos to share from your Sakai sites:
- Log into Sakai and click the first “My Workspace” tab
- From the left-hand menu, click “Kaltura My Media” link (this should show you all your videos on the RU-Stream Kaltura server)
- Click the “Add New” button at the top right of the screen
- Select “Create Recording”
If this is the first time you’ve created a recording with Kaltura, you’ll need to download the CaptureSpace software
- If you’ve already installed CaptureSpace, wait a moment or two and it will launch automatically
- Select the combo you’d like to record, for instance, “screen” (note all options include audio from mic)
- Choose to record your full screen or just a selected area (which will require clicking “select area” to specify the window to record)
- You’ll get a 5-second countdown before the recording starts
- Press <alt>-p to pause the recording
- Click Done (or cancel if necessary!)
- The new video will immediately play back; click Done in the bottom right corner of the screen
- Type the name of your new video and click Upload to save it to the Kaltura streaming server
- The video will now appear in the Kaltura My Media page from your Sakai “My Workspace” site
- You can then download the original video file as an mp4 to submit as an assignment.
